what is adaptive cruise control(ACC):

The term adaptive means stick to something. Here the adaptive cruise control alters the vehicles speed to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. This prevents risk of getting in a accident

Ford is to launch 4 suv's within 4 years

To tap into the fast growing SUV segment, Ford Motor announced on Thursday that it will launch four new sports utility Vehicles(SUV) in its global lineup in the coming four years.

Ford said that all the four SUV will be in segments which are not yet catered to by the company.

"As members of the 80-million-strong millennial age group enter their prime child-rearing years, a leading indicator of more SUV sales, nearly 80 million aging baby boomers continue to prefer their SUVs," said Mark LaNeve, Ford Motor Company vice president of Marketing, Sales and Service. "It's a demographic double whammy and it all points to one thing - more SUVs for the foreseeable future."

LaNeve cited recent Ford research that shows once millennials even begin thinking about starting a family, their interest in shopping for SUVs goes up significantly.

Other reasons that Ford pointed out for the increase in sales of SUV in the recent past are the low gas prices and the continuing improvement in the fuel efficiency of the SUVs.

"Some SUVs now rival the fuel efficiency of V6-powered midsize sedans from only a few years ago," said LaNeve, "Even if gas prices go up, refueling costs for owners of modern SUVs will be much less than they were during the last SUV boom.

Google's drive less cars to hit on London's roads soon.

Google could trial its driverless cars in London in the near future. It would be the first time the vehicles would be tested extensively outside the US by Google.

Deputy Mayor for Transport Isabel Dedring has been meeting with Google representatives about the proposed scheme.

She said: "It's going to have to work in big cities so why don't we start trialling it now? Google have said they are focused on the States, but they're starting to think about going elsewhere so we're in active discussions.

"We met them a few weeks ago to see whether they would do trials here. It is still very early days but we would be keen for trials to happen in London whenever Google are ready to move them into other countries."

Driverless cars have been looked on favourably by the government. Earlier this week, Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin announced that 20 million will be allocated to the development of infrastructure supporting driverless cars.

In addition, in a report from February 2015, Claire Perry MP said that driverless cars had the potential to deliver "major benefits for road safety, social inclusion, emissions and congestion."

In the US driverless cars have clocked up over 1.4 million miles in test drives in California and Texas, which have been going on since 2009.

Sachin Tendulkar launches road safety campaign:

NEW DELHI: Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar launched a road safety campaign saying that like batting in the middle, a partnership is needed between the vehicle drivers and pedestrians to make the dangerous Indian roads safer.
"It is extremely sad, the amount of lives we are losing everyday to road fatalities. Discipline is very important if you have to make our roads. Like partnership is important between the batsman and non-striker, same way it is imperative for the vehicle drivers and pedestrians to collaborate to make roads safer," said Tendulkar at the launch of 'Aster SafeRoads i#Pledge' campaign here.
"It is sad when I see people violating traffic rules in our country. You have to wear helmets while riding a two-wheeler. I often see people holding helmets in their hands or keeping them on the steering while riding. This has to change," added the celebrated batsman, who kick started the initiative in the company of Azad Moopen, founder of Aster DM Healthcare.
Going by the figures of Transport Ministry, a life is lost every 3.7 minutes in India due to road accidents, resulting in 1.2 million deaths annually and serious injuries to over 5.5 million people.

Auto expo 2k16

 1.3 lakh visitors on sunday

GREATER NOIDA: More than 3.2 lakh people visited the Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida on the first three days, with Sunday witnessing a record crowd of over 1.3 lakh.

The current edition of the biennial show has so far seen more footfalls than last year - fewer than 3.1 lakh people visited it on the first three days in 2014. The organisers are expecting 6 lakh visitors before the show closes on Tuesday, compared with 5.6 lakh last time.

The Sunday crowd was cheered by the presence of Bollywood start Akshay Kumar, the Honda two-wheeler brand ambassador who visited the company's stall.

As many as 65 exhibitors are participating in this year's show, with them unveiling about 70 new products.

The exhibition is spread over 73,000 square meters, compared with 69,000 square meters last time. After a two-day preview for the media, the expo opened its gates to the public on Friday.
Green vehicles to be launched soon in India.

AUTO EXPO 2016

NOIDA/MUMBAI: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd has begun talks with its new Italian design house, Pininfarina SpA, to build a premium car for its home market, to counter a surge in competition in its mainstay sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment.

The country's biggest maker of SUVs and tractors will decide within the coming months on the type of car and timing of its release, likely some four years later, Executive Director Pawan Goenka told Reuters at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016 this week.

Group company Tech Mahindra Ltd agreed to buy the loss-making designer of Ferrari, Maserati and Rolls Royce cars in December, adding premium capability to a company known for more boxy, practical cars.

The deal came with Mahindra's domestic SUV market share hitting 37 percent in the 12 months through March from 48 percent two years earlier, industry data showed, as global rivals such as Ford Motor Co, Renault SA and Hyundai Motor Co compete with sleeker models.

"Pininfarina can help Mahindra go to the next step in our effort to become global," Goenka said. "We want to leverage the brand, design and engineering expertise."

Mahindra showed off a concept three-door cross between a coupe and SUV at the motor show - the XUV Aero - built with input from Pininfarina. Depending on interest, Mahindra may sell the car priced from 2 million rupees ($29,560), Goenka said.

"We are looking to see how to design a product that has a Mahindra kind of heritage but a Pininfarina kind of design and styling."

Buying Pininfarina will help the Mahindra group garner more business beyond autos, such as air transport and consumer goods, said Jagdish Mitra, chief strategy and marketing officer at Tech Mahindra, whose clients include Hindustan Unilever Ltd and PepsiCo Inc.

"We primarily work on the engineering side but tomorrow our opportunity lies in getting significantly involved in design," said Mitra.

Pininfarina would be the group's latest automotive purchase. It bought the majority of both South Korean automaker Ssangyong Motor Co Ltd in 2010 and the scooter business of France's Peugeot SA last year - both of which, like Pininfarina, were losing money when the deals were agreed.

The acquisitions edged Mahindra closer to becoming a global automaker, giving it access to markets outside of India as well as to technology such as Ssangyong's petrol engines.

3. New Quanto/Canto

Mahindra’s first stab at the compact SUV segment did not work out too well for them probably because of the Quanto‘s questionable, Xyloderived exterior. However, now the manufacturer is working on a comprehensive facelift of the product which should debut at the Auto Expo next year. It’ll be interesting to see how Mahindra positions the Quanto in the market considering the fact that they already have the TUV300 compact SUV on sale.

WHAT IS A HYBRID CAR:
Defining Hybrids
A vehicle is a hybrid if it utilizes more than one form of onboard energy to achieve propulsion. In practice, that means a hybrid will have a traditional internal-combustion engine and a fuel tank, as well as one or more electric motors and a battery pack.
Hybrid cars are sometimes mistakenly confused withe lectric vehicles. Hybrids are most often gasoline-burning machines that utilize their electric bits to collect and reuse energy that normally goes to waste in standard cars. Theoretically, diesel-electric hybrids would be even more fuel-efficient, but hybrid systems and diesel engines both represent extra cost. So far, installing both in the same vehicle has proven to be prohibitively expensive.
Hybrid Car Glossary
Below are the terms most often used when referring to hybrid vehicles.
Motor-generator: The more accurate term for the electric motor. It provides supplemental acceleration "oomph" when operating as a motor by drawing electricity from the battery. Several hybrids have two, and a few models employ three.
Stop-start: Present on all hybrids, the engine's traditional starter motor is absent because the motor-generator takes on that function, too. Hybrid-control software shuts the engine off while stopped at traffic signals and automatically restarts it again with the electric motor when the driver releases the brake pedal. Eliminating the fuel waste of an idling gas engine causes overall mpg to climb significantly and tailpipe emissions to drop, especially in town.
Regenerative braking: An important function of the motor-generator is to generate electricity to recharge the battery as it absorbs a portion of the vehicle's momentum when slowing or coasting downhill. Normal cars waste all of their excess momentum as heat in the brakes. Regenerative braking is insufficient to stop a car quickly, so conventional hydraulic brakes are still necessary.
Electric drive: Operating the vehicle on electric power alone is possible if the hybrid system has enough electrical capacity. The maximum speed and distance over which electric-only operation can be sustained varies from essentially zero to a handful of miles, and has everything to do with the weight and aerodynamics of the vehicle, the strength of the motor-generator and, more than anything else, the capacity of the battery.

Automated Manual Transmission (AMT)

In the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, where more than 70 vehicles were launched, one that pundits hailed as the most important was Maruti Suzuki's Celerio, the first affordable mass segment gearless hatchback. Celerio comes with AMT (automate manual transmission) sourced from Magneti Marelli, component arm of Fiat. AMT is an electro-hydraulic mechanism for automating manual transmission, which derives from Formula 1.

It has a hydraulic system and an electronic system. The electronic transmission control unit helps in engaging and disengaging the clutch and gear through an electronic actuator. It also has a sports mode, which enables drivers to move to the manual shifting of gear to increase and decrease the gear ratios with plus and minus either through gear knob /joystick or the steering. In India, AMT is currently available in three cars — Celerio, Alto K10 and Tata Zest.

Pros: Superior fuel economy, acceleration and responsiveness when properly tuned.

Cons: Pricey; can be clumsy at low speeds and when parking.
